Removing Statues & Animating Strawmen
The removal of Founding Father statues is yet another egregious example of the left bringing Trump and MAGA's strawmen arguments to life.
The removal of Founding Father statues is yet another egregious example of the left bringing Trump and MAGA's strawmen arguments to life. Trump argued that there was some sort of throughline connecting the removal of Confederate statues to a broader attack against the rest of American culture. He should have been wrong.
The Confederates fought for a vision of government and a form of state-centric super loyalty in opposition to the Union that America had moved past with the abandonment of the Articles of Confederation, and it fought to preserve an evil institution that was in opposition to the ideals of the Declaration of Independence and the protections of the Bill of Rights. The culture of America is one of Liberty and Union, and the Confederacy was a challenge to the Founding Vision, not a manifestation of it.
But the left is just as confused as the MAGA populists on this issue, and they have given credence to Trump's charge by truly believing that the Founders and the Confederacy are both equally deserving of being dismissed and discarded.
Yet again, we see the way the radicals on the left and right are made for each other, and the ways they each feed, in turn, the others' absurd accusations.
No one has made progressive radicalism stronger than Trump, whose antics chase independents into their arms. And no has made Trump and his ilk stronger than his leftward critics, who cry wolf at his ridiculous assertions but then continually find ways to make those assertions prove true.

I wish these people wouldn't take their hatred out on the statues. They were not responsible for any of the deeds perpetrated by the people they represent. And we forget too easily that sculpture is an ART FORM and needs to be respected as such.
Defacing, decapitating, immersing in water and other such tactics will do nothing to reverse the sins of the past- all it does is shows the people doing them to be assholes who disrespect art.
